Finding the Land

You need people and a place for new ideas to take root and begin to grow.

For 25 years I’ve been going to an special place about 45 minutes from the idyllic Napa Valley in Northern California.

The initial attraction was an amazing hot spring, Harbin. Located in an isolated canyon it’s healing waters provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of the San Francisco Bay Area. Eventually purchasing a vacation cabin I started spending time in the area on a regular basis…I fell in love with Lake County.

In 2015 the hot spring and general area were devastated by one of the first California mega fires. While I lost my cabin, I didn’t lose my love for the area.

Fast forward to 2023, the hot spring has been rebuilt, I have a new cabin and I’m feeling drawn to the regenerative farming movement. From time to time I would look online for land, holding the intention for the perfect parcel.

In July of 2023 I was scheduled to go to my cabin for a few days and on a whim I looked for land for sale. To my delight there was a 20 acre parcel for sale…it was flat, on a seasonal creek and sat on one of the biggest aquifers in Lake County. There were some small buildings, a well operated with off the grid solar and on old tractor with a variety of attachments. And it was located on the road to the hot spring.

It was perfect!

Other Updates

I contacted a realtor on a Wednesday and visited the property on Saturday. The current owner gave me a tour and history of what he’d started on the property. I remember the excitement I felt with all the possibilities. After the visit I went to the hot spring to meditate…sitting with the question about the purchase. Meditating was impossible, my mind was flooded with ideas. That night I went to the cabin and my dreams were filled with all the nightmares of what could go wrong. In that 24 hour period I got to see the antics of my mind. What should I choose? Clearly I made the choice to purchase the land or I wouldn’t be writing this post. It flowed so easily that from the day I saw it online to the day I owned it was 2 weeks!

Thus was born Hozho Farms.
